About the position

The County of Washington is seeking to hire a Cyber Security Coordinator who will play a crucial role in safeguarding the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information within the county's information technology framework. This position is essential in protecting the county's information from unauthorized access or disclosure. The Cyber Security Coordinator will work closely with the network manager to ensure that all aspects of the County network adhere to current cyber security best practices. This includes implementing and maintaining security measures to protect information system assets by identifying potential and actual security problems and proposing solutions to enhance security protocols. The Cyber Security Coordinator will be responsible for assessing the current security situation, evaluating trends, and anticipating future requirements to ensure robust security measures are in place. The role requires a strong understanding of network protocols, particularly TCP/IP, and familiarity with common networking ports and protocols, traffic flow, system administration, and the OSI model. The coordinator will also need to be proficient in using various security tools such as Anti-virus software, Host Intrusion Prevention Systems (HIPS), Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (ID/PS), full packet capture, and network forensics tools. Extensive documentation of security processes and inter-departmental interactions will be required to ensure compliance and effective communication across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.
  • Advanced understanding of TCP/IP and common networking ports and protocols.
  • Proficient with Anti-virus, HIPS, ID/PS, full packet capture, and network forensics.
  • Strong documentation skills and ability to interact with various departments.
