About the position

The Cyber Security Engineer and Backup Information Security Officer (ISO) plays a crucial role in supporting the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Radford University. This position is responsible for the development and management of the Information Security Program, ensuring the security of all information technology systems and networks. The role includes managing various security programs, monitoring for malicious activities, and overseeing vendor risk management, all while contributing to the university's overall cybersecurity strategy.

Responsibilities

• Support the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) in the development and management of the Information Security Program.
• Implement and execute the cyber security program for all information technology systems and networks.
• Manage the Network Security Program and monitor Intrusion Prevention Systems for malicious activity.
• Act as the Application Administrator for the Extended Detection and Response (EDR) system.
• Manage the Endpoint Security Program and the Third Party/Vendor Risk Management Program.
• Oversee the Student Security Operations Center (SOC).

Requirements

• Advanced degree in Information Security, Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC, or Security+.
• Knowledge of Security Assessment processes and multi-platform environments.
• Ability to organize, plan, and coordinate activities to mitigate unauthorized activity.
• Understanding of security issues involved in maintaining and safeguarding institutional data.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of SSO and MFA systems and best practices.
• Experience with SIEM and EDR.
• Experience creating process diagrams and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with security frameworks such as ISO 27001, ISO 27002, NIST 800-171, NIST 800-53, and the NIST CSF.
• Experience with scripting.
