The Cyber Security Engineer at Gaston College is a pivotal role that reports directly to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). This position is primarily responsible for enforcing information security policies to safeguard the college's computer infrastructure, networks, and data from cyber-attacks and internal threats. The Cyber Security Engineer will monitor cyber security threats and implement pre-established measures to mitigate their impact. This role requires close collaboration with all divisions to address day-to-day operational security issues effectively. Key functions of the Cyber Security Engineer include assisting in the development of a comprehensive security plan that assesses current vulnerabilities and researching effective strategies for the long-term protection of the college's IT and data resources. The engineer will serve as the primary point of contact for reviewing threats and vulnerabilities, designing mitigation strategies, and assisting the Data Center and Network Manager (DCNM) with industry best practices to ensure the implementation of appropriate products and standards. The Cyber Security Engineer will also monitor the college's security prevention and detection solutions, both internal and external, and third-party services that provide protection for the college's network infrastructure and systems. This role involves ensuring authorized access to college resources, managing permission violations, and collaborating with the CIO to develop and implement technology refresh security plans and risk assessments. The engineer will promote and coordinate planning, developing, and implementing programs and projects that may involve multiple IT units or user groups across the campus. Additionally, the Cyber Security Engineer is responsible for implementing the technical controls of the information security program, policies, and procedures for the college, ensuring compliance with college, state, and federal regulations. This position may require employees to adjust their standard work schedules, including evening and weekend hours, to meet the operational needs of the college. Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.
