About the position

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Cyber Security Test Engineer to join our team supporting a MILSATCOM Program Management Office (PMO) within the US Space Force's (USSF), Space Systems Command (SSC) at Peterson Space Force Base (PSFB), CO. In this role, you will provide essential support to the cyber security operations staff in resolving cyber security issues as they arise. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the identification of non-compliant system settings, exploitable threats, and other system vulnerabilities. This work is crucial for the MILSATCOM portfolio of programs, ensuring that we meet the needs of our emerging next-generation protected SATCOM systems. You will support the US Space Force on the MILSATCOM Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (MSEIT) effort, which provides leading-edge Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) for the Air Force's Space and Missiles System Center. This includes supporting the acquisition of state-of-the-art Military Satellite Communications systems that provide global secure, survivable, and protected communications for our nation's warfighters. As a Cyber Security Test Engineer, you will thrive in a highly collaborative work environment, working within small teams and utilizing the most modern tools and methodologies to tackle the challenges of integrating complex space and ground communications systems. Your essential job functions will include authoring technical documentation such as test plans, test procedures, technical white papers, and test reports. You will use industry-accepted and in-house developed tools to collect and aggregate cyber security data, which will aid in identifying non-compliant system settings and exploitable threats. Additionally, you will assist in communicating with system developers to enhance understanding of cyber security concepts and controls implemented in the systems. You will provide collected data to Information Systems Security Engineers (ISSE) to support their assessment of the system's cyber security posture and assist the cyber security operations staff in resolving complex cyber security issues. Your role will also involve authoring and peer-reviewing cyber security test plans and detailed test procedures, enhancing cyber security testing processes through feedback, and reporting on cyber security program activities to upper management as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the cyber security operations staff in resolving cyber security issues as requested.
  • Assist in the identification of non-compliant system settings, exploitable threats, and other system vulnerabilities.
  • Author technical documentation including test plans, test procedures, technical white papers, and test reports.
  • Use industry accepted and in-house developed tools to collect and aggregate cyber security data.
  • Assist in communication with system developers to enhance understanding of cyber security concepts and controls.
  • Provide collected data to Information Systems Security Engineers (ISSE) to support their assessment of system cyber security posture.
  • Assist in authoring and peer-reviews of cyber security test plans and detailed test procedures.
  • Enhance cyber security testing processes and procedures through feedback and implementation.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience with DoD/USAF test processes and documentation.
  • 3+ years of experience with MILSATCOM systems, associated hardware, and troubleshooting.
  • 3+ years of experience working with military or DoD civilian clients and managing professional relationships.
  • Excellent written, verbal communications and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of DoD mission system sustainment.
  • Must be a motivated, self-starter capable of autonomous on-the-job learning/improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Nice-to-haves

  • Understand fundamental concepts of software design and implementation.
  • Ability to undertake new challenges with limited guidance.
  • Experience with Secure Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) Compliance Checker (SCC) and STIG Viewer.
  • Experience with Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS).
  • Experience using the Command-Line-Interface (CLI).
  • Experience with administrating Linux and Windows systems.
  • Experience with Database Management (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server).
  • Experience with Cisco network devices.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining scripts (primarily PowerShell).
  • Familiarity with software vulnerability assessment and code analysis.
  • Familiarity with DoD RMF Assessment and Authorization (A&A) process.
  • Familiarity with AF/DoD/CNSSI/NIST security policy/manuals and other guiding policy documents.
  • Familiarity with penetration testing methodology and tools.
