About the position

The Cyber Operations Systems Engineer/Analyst role at APL involves designing and integrating systems to support operations, particularly in the context of cyber operations. The position requires a deep understanding of operational concepts and systems engineering principles to address complex challenges faced by U.S. government agencies and military organizations. The role emphasizes collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams to develop effective systems that meet operational needs, while also mentoring junior team members and guiding them through the systems engineering lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Understand multiple layers of operational concepts and apply that knowledge to improve capabilities throughout the systems engineering lifecycle.
  • Ensure that cyber operations systems are designed and developed effectively and orderly.
  • Work with government stakeholders to ensure systems meet their operational needs while communicating technical risks.
  • Collaborate with operational stakeholders to document their needs and translate them into well-defined requirements and architecture.
  • Lead efforts to design and develop systems to support cyber operations by collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ensure systems being built meet operational needs by incorporating industry-accepted methodologies in testing and evaluation.
  • Mentor and guide fellow team members to develop future leaders and technical experts.

Requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in a science, mathematics, engineering, psychology, or cybersecurity related field, or another Bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant military or government experience.
  • 5+ years of experience developing concepts, systems, or analytics with an understanding of systems engineering or operational planning techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and good organizational skills.
  • Experience with DoD and/or IC cyber operations/mission forces.
  • Active Top Secret level security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI Poly clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in engineering, science, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in the design, development, and deployment of complex systems or analytics focused on full spectrum cyber operations.
  • Experience in conducting research, development, and testing of offensive cyber capabilities.
  • Experience in DevSecOps.
  • Experience in developing documents that define processes, solutions, requirements, and specifications for government agencies.
