About the position

The Cybersecurity Analyst I position at the City of Fargo is responsible for safeguarding the organization's systems and networks against cyber threats. This role involves conducting vulnerability assessments, incident response, policy development, and proactive risk management to ensure compliance and promote a culture of cybersecurity awareness within the organization. The analyst will work under the general supervision of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and collaborate with IT teams to enhance security measures and training.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor security logs and alerts to detect and respond to security incidents in a timely manner, including coordination with MDR vendor.
  • Configure and manage security tools such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, antivirus software, and endpoint security solutions.
  • Conduct security awareness training & phishing campaigns for employees to promote a culture of cybersecurity awareness and best practices.
  • Participate in incident response exercises and tabletop simulations to test and improve the organization's incident response capabilities.
  • Participate in security audits and compliance assessments, including against OT / SCADA networks.
  • Document security incidents, procedures, and solutions for future reference and knowledge sharing.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of disaster recovery, business continuity, and incident response plans.
  • Act as a liaison between the organization and external security vendors, consultants, and auditors.
  • Conduct and review regular vulnerabilities assessments to identify weaknesses and potential threats in the organization's systems and networks.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to integrate security controls into new and existing systems and applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science and three (3) years of progressively more responsible experience, or an Associate degree in Computer Science and five (5) or more years of progressively more responsible experience in a multi-user environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with Windows servers, computer networks, and IP telephony.
  • Knowledge and experience of techniques to troubleshoot network/server issues.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and meet strategic deadlines.
  • Skill in communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Knowledge and experience working with log retention and review (SIEM / syslog).
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, PCI-DSS, CJIS, and NENA standards beneficial.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of privacy requirements (PHI, PII) and best practices.
