About the position

The Cybersecurity Analyst I position is responsible for protecting the City of Columbia's networks, systems, hardware, and software from unauthorized access and cyber threats. This role involves monitoring vulnerabilities, responding to security alerts, creating training programs, and assisting in policy development to ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and remediates critical vulnerabilities on workstations and servers.
• Reviews, investigates, and responds to real-time alerts within the environment.
• Creates cybersecurity training curriculum and provides security updates.
• Regularly reviews firewall rules and analyzes inspection tool outputs.
• Collates data from security tools into technical reports.
• Assists in the creation and enhancement of city and IT policies.
• Serves as a member of the Incident Response Team and coordinates actions for threat scenarios.
• Participates in business continuity plan development.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Public Administration, or related field.
• 3 to 5 years' experience in information/cybersecurity.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity vulnerabilities, malware, and threat landscape.
• Technical knowledge of enterprise-class technologies such as firewalls, routers, and VPNs.
• Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks such as NIST, Cobit, ISO, PCI, and HIPAA.
• General scripting/programming skills.

• Experience with technical writing and report compilation.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts to non-technical personnel.
