About the position

The Cybersecurity Analyst/Software Engineer role involves supporting a government client by implementing and maintaining security measures and controls. This position requires a hybrid work schedule, with three days onsite in Rockville, MD, and is structured as a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cybersecurity and software engineering, with responsibilities that include vulnerability testing, security audits, and developing custom cybersecurity solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and upgrade security measures and controls
  • Establish plans and protocols to protect digital files and information systems against unauthorized access, modification and/or destruction
  • Maintain data and monitor security access
  • Perform vulnerability testing, risk analyses and security assessments
  • Conduct internal and external security audits
  • Write custom code and build Cybersecurity solutions/applications
  • Anticipate security alerts, incidents and disasters and reduce their likelihood
  • Manage network, intrusion detection and prevention systems
  • Analyze security breaches to determine their root cause
  • Recommend and install appropriate tools and countermeasures
  • Define, implement and maintain corporate security policies
  • Train fellow employees in security awareness and procedures
  • Coordinate security plans with outside vendors

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in cybersecurity or software engineering
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, or PHP
  • Experience with IDS/IPS, penetration and vulnerability testing
  • Knowledge of DLP, anti-virus, and anti-malware solutions
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP, computer networking, routing, and switching
  • Understanding of firewall and intrusion detection/prevention protocols
  • Experience with Windows, UNIX, and Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge of network protocols and packet analysis tools
  • Experience with cloud computing and SaaS models
  • Familiarity with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and Security Operations Center (SOC)
