About the position

The Cybersecurity Engineer at Discover plays a crucial role in creating solutions that align with the Cybersecurity engineering roadmap. This position is responsible for maintaining processes that deliver highly complex secure systems, cyber applications, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and risk requirements. The Cybersecurity Engineer will facilitate process engineering, risk remediation, and the mitigation of operational risk in a fast-paced environment. Key activities include analyzing cyber technologies, metrics models, and performance indicators to identify robust solutions and build resilient next-generation systems that address business challenges and enhance the control environment. The role also involves actively managing and escalating risk and customer-impacting issues to management as part of the day-to-day responsibilities. In this position, the Cybersecurity Engineer will analyze, design, and develop security solutions in collaboration with Cybersecurity architects, ensuring alignment with corporate technology goals and risk tolerance levels. The engineer will serve as a subject matter expert for supported security technologies, providing expertise during escalations. Additionally, the role requires validating current and future state architectural models to assess their impact across assigned Cybersecurity technology systems. The engineer will oversee security requirements and technical specifications to guide project implementation towards successful solution delivery, while also providing direction to infrastructure, operations, data, and application development groups throughout the transition and implementation phases. Building and maintaining effective relationships with management, peers, project managers, and internal customers is essential, as is staying informed about next-gen designs, security trends, threats, and attack techniques. Compliance with audit, regulatory, and legal requirements is a critical aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, designs and develops security solutions with Cybersecurity architects to ensure alignment with corporate technology goals and risk tolerance levels.
  • Designs and engineers solutions to align with the Cybersecurity Strategy.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for supported security technologies and acts as a subject matter expert during escalations.
  • Validates current and future state architectural models to assess impact across assigned Cybersecurity technology systems.
  • Oversees security requirements and technical specifications to guide project implementation towards successful solution delivery.
  • Provides direction to infrastructure, operations, data and application development groups throughout the transitioning phase, implementation in production and beyond.
  • Manages relationships with security partners and vendors.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with management, peers, project managers and internal customers.
  • Maintains knowledge of engineering next-gen designs, security trends, threats and attack techniques.
  • Ensures compliance to audit, regulatory and legal requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Information Security, Application Security, Security Engineering or related fields.
  • Technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale for internal applicants.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong knowledge of Application Security tools such as SAST, IAST, DAST, SCA, RASP.
  • Strong knowledge of containerized application environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Cloud computing concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of top security concepts and frameworks like OWASP, NIST, NVD, etc.
  • Experience developing code in Python, Java, and/or Node.
  • Knowledge of SDLC concepts.
