About the position

The engineering role at MITRE focuses on enhancing cybersecurity capabilities within the Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. The position involves evaluating technologies, conducting research, and developing cybersecurity functions in both on-premises and cloud environments. The selected candidate will collaborate with various teams to support mission objectives and engage with sponsors to shape work across multiple cybersecurity workstreams.

Responsibilities

  • Support for one or multiple workstreams to evaluate technologies, understanding product functionality, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Research on product capabilities and develop a technical report based on the research results and analysis.
  • Hands-on coding, debugging, implementation, and integration of different products in a lab environment.
  • Creating deliverables relating to proof-of-concepts, prototypes, technical analysis, product evaluation and integration testing activities using agile workflow process.
  • Development of cybersecurity functions and services in on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Sponsor engagement to establish and understand mission requirements and shape work to achieve those goals.
  • Collaborate with MITRE Labs and other MITRE teams to support the implementation of the CISA CB mission objectives.

Requirements

  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree; or 3 years of a master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Experience implementing and managing cybersecurity tools and services in a multi-cloud lab environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to translate technical lab work into impactful outcomes.
  • Experience working within an agile framework, where rapid delivery of work products is expected.
  • Experience with adversary emulation and deep understanding of adversarial behaviors and techniques.
  • Security Operations Center (SOC) expertise desired.
  • Experience analyzing telemetry from cybersecurity tools and aligning it with mission objectives and requirements.
  • Ability to be flexible and be a self-starter by performing independent work with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to obtain DHS-Fitness U.S. government clearance.

  • Familiarity with System Engineering, Architecture, Applied Cybersecurity, Cyber Analytics, Cyber Architecture and Resilience, Cyber Threat Intelligence.
