About the position

Anakim Consulting is seeking an exceptional Cybersecurity Engineer Senior to support the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This role is critical in providing a standardized platform to collect, transform, and integrate cybersecurity data from relevant authoritative sources into a coherent dataset. The goal is to deliver actionable information into Agency and Federal Dashboards to identify risk areas and facilitate coordinated agency and national responses to cyber threats. The successful candidate will adopt a consultative approach to enhance the value of the data collected by our customers. The Cybersecurity Engineer will be responsible for the full development lifecycle of data, which includes gathering requirements from DHS and other OMB initiatives, and providing comprehensive support for the entire program. This position requires building a new data automation practice to address pressing needs related to Cyber Security Threats and Data. The candidate will be a leader in the practice of Big Data, applying innovative solutions to solve cybersecurity problems and presenting findings through white papers and other documentation. Key responsibilities include performing research and analysis on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) cybersecurity solutions, installing and configuring these solutions within complex government environments, and acting as the primary point of contact for support and integration-related issues. The Cybersecurity Engineer will also support the ongoing operation and maintenance of a dashboard monitoring environment, which involves data representation from various security solutions across Federal Government Agencies. The role requires coordination with the DHS SELC lifecycle and Agile SAFe methodology, ensuring that system security requirements are met throughout the project lifecycle. Additionally, the engineer will participate in technical discussions, perform advanced troubleshooting, and support administrative functions as directed by program leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct full development lifecycle of data including requirements gathering from DHS and other OMB initiatives.
  • Build a new data automation practice to address pressing Cyber Security Threats and Data needs.
  • Perform research and analysis on COTS cybersecurity solutions to determine their efficacy as security tools and data sources.
  • Install, configure, and support COTS cybersecurity solutions within complex government environments.
  • Support the ongoing operation and maintenance of a dashboard monitoring environment.
  • Coordinate and support the transition of new capabilities to Operations in accordance with the DHS SELC lifecycle.
  • Support and observe software testing activities to meet task order requirements.
  • Maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data across physical and logical solution boundaries.
  • Participate in regular reviews with the Innovation Team.
  • Plan, perform, and verify the implementation of updates, patches, and routine maintenance to the Test Lab and Agency Dashboard instances.

Requirements

  • 9+ years of related experience in cybersecurity or a closely related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, electrical engineering, physics, or a closely related field (12 to 16 years of experience in lieu of degree).
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Powershell, or R.
  • Knowledge of reporting packages (e.g., Business Objects), databases (e.g., SQL, MySQL), and programming (e.g., XML, Javascript, ETL frameworks).
  • Proven ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative solutions.
  • Experience with multiple REST API authentication types and knowledge of REST methods.
  • Basic understanding of API calls for data ingestion and T-SQL, data warehousing, and data modeling techniques.
  • Operating system experience with Linux.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
