About the position

The position at MITRE involves joining the Systems Security Engineering (SSE) Department as a subject matter expert focused on ensuring trustworthy, resilient, and secure solutions for various projects. The role emphasizes collaboration in a fast-paced environment, utilizing cutting-edge technology to advance security concepts and capabilities. The candidate will lead efforts in integrating security into large engineering projects and will have opportunities to enhance the science and practice of systems security engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Apply the Security Design Order of Precedence (SecDOP) approach to minimize design basis for loss potential and implement engineered security features.
  • Analyze missions and systems for unacceptable loss scenarios.
  • Advise stakeholders on improving enterprise cyber C2 and situational awareness capabilities.
  • Provide recommendations for ensuring systems meet security, resiliency, safety, and assurance needs.
  • Research and develop unique technical capabilities for assessing system resilience and security.
  • Analyze system requirements and integration approaches to enable solutions that are As Secure As Reasonably Practical (ASARP).

Requirements

  • Typically requires less than 1 year of related experience with a related bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Familiarity with conducting capability assessments using relevant methodologies, standards, and frameworks.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills for developing technical artifacts and presentations.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment with peers and government officials.
  • Active Secret clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong defense mission domain knowledge.
  • Strong federal civilian domain knowledge.
  • Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or other related disciplines.
  • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-160 v1r1, Engineering Trustworthy Secure Systems.
  • Knowledge of defensive and/or offensive cyberspace operations.
  • Understanding of mission engineering, security resilience, reliability, and safety engineering methods.
