About the position

Excentium, Inc. is seeking a Cybersecurity Engineer to support our customers in Reston, Virginia, and/or remotely. As a Service-Disabled Veteran owned small business (SDVOSB), we specialize in Cyber Security Engineering, Information Assurance (IA), management, Certification and Accreditation (C&A), and various IT services tailored for government and commercial organizations. The Cybersecurity Engineer will play a crucial role in implementing security controls, documenting these implementations, and developing System Security Plans (SSP) and Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&M). This position requires a strong understanding of the Risk Management Framework and proficiency in tools designed for system vulnerability testing and assessments. In this role, the Cybersecurity Engineer will manage day-to-day support operations, which may involve multiple projects and personnel across various locations. The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing, directing, and coordinating all support activities and work products. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential, as the engineer will need to establish and adjust structures to align with support activities effectively. The engineer will also coordinate, develop, and advise on security programs for the organization, providing recommendations for information assurance/security solutions that meet customer requirements. Additionally, the engineer will identify, report, and resolve security violations, establishing and satisfying information assurance and security requirements based on user, policy, regulatory, and resource demands. The Cybersecurity Engineer may also direct or perform analysis, design, and development of security features for Federal system architectures, analyzing and defining security requirements for various computer systems, including mainframes, workstations, and personal computers. The engineer will design, develop, engineer, and implement solutions that meet security requirements, analyze general information assurance-related technical problems, and provide basic engineering and technical support to resolve these issues. Participation in all phases of the systems lifecycle, including preliminary and final design, systems development, integration, and testing, is expected. The engineer will serve as the principal liaison between the customer and supporting personnel for specific task areas.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Sr Cyber Engineer with the implementation of security controls.
  • Document control implementations and develop SSP and POA&M documentation.
  • Perform day-to-day management of support operations across multiple projects and personnel.
  • Organize, direct, and coordinate the planning and production of all support activities and work products.
  • Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Establish and adjust structures to align with support activities as necessary.
  • Coordinate, develop, and advise on security programs for the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications Engineering, or Software Engineering.
  • 5 years' experience working in Cybersecurity.
  • Experience with Security Event & Incident Management (SEIM) tools (e.g. LogRhythm, Splunk).
  • Experience evaluating the cyber compliance of a system against Federal Cybersecurity policies.
  • Experience providing systems engineering or operational support to the TSA, including system administration and systems security.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, including DoD 8500.02, DoD 8510, NIST SP 800-37, NIST SP 800-53 or 53A, NIST SP 800-30, or CNSSI 1253.
  • Understanding of STIGs and ability to provide direction based on STIGs.

Nice-to-haves
