About the position

The Leidos Cybersecurity, Architecture, and Engineering (CAE) organization is seeking an experienced and motivated Cybersecurity Engineer. This position offers the flexibility to work remotely or from one of the following locations: Gaithersburg, MD, Reston, VA, or Orlando, FL. As a member of the Cybersecurity Architecture and Engineering Team, the Cybersecurity Engineer will play a crucial role in understanding and improving the architectures, data flows, and security controls that ensure secure system architectures and implementations. The role requires a solid foundation in regulatory requirements and best practices to review and validate system designs across the Leidos global architecture. Success in this position will depend on the ability to explain complex problems to customers in common terms and build relationships within the Leidos Enterprise. In this role, you will have opportunities for creativity and growth while working with a world-class Cybersecurity, Architecture, and Engineering team that has extensive experience with a multitude of enterprise applications and security tools. You will lead design reviews for enterprise environments and capabilities, ensuring that design decisions, technical control implementations, and risk mitigation measures set the foundation for Leidos' global cybersecurity posture. You will collaborate with Leidos Corporate customers to understand their needs and design appropriate environment controls that adhere to security standards. Additionally, you will assess and threat model systems architectures currently in place, working with technical staff to recommend cybersecurity controls for improvement. You will be responsible for resolving technical security design issues as enterprise solutions and business needs evolve, continually researching current and emerging security technologies to propose necessary changes. Informing stakeholders of any security issues with proposed technical solutions and assessing the business impact of certain technical choices will also be part of your responsibilities. Over time, you will develop a set of reference architectures that can be used across customer engagements, acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with regulatory, compliance, and technical knowledge to support your teammates. Responsibilities

  • Lead design reviews for enterprise environments and capabilities.
  • Work with Leidos Corporate customers to understand their needs and design appropriate environment controls.
  • Assess and threat model systems architectures currently in place and recommend cybersecurity controls for improvement.
  • Resolve technical security design issues as enterprise solutions and business needs evolve.
  • Research current and emerging security technologies and propose changes as needed.
  • Inform stakeholders of any security issues with proposed technical solutions and assess business impact.
  • Enhance, document, and moderate processes alongside experienced Security Architects and Engineers.
  • Develop a set of reference architectures over time for use across customer engagements.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with regulatory, compliance, and technical knowledge to support teammates.
  • Interface with other organizations outside of Engineering to ensure inputs and outputs meet expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in Information Security.
  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance and must have US citizenship.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Understanding of security fundamentals across different areas of expertise (Networking, Endpoint, Application, Cloud, Mobile, etc.).
  • Knowledge of a broad spectrum of security products and ability to conduct analysis of alternatives.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in taking strategic intents and driving technical organizational change.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and deploying security solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Experience as a compliance engineer designing, reviewing, and securing environments.
  • Information security experience as a DoD and/or Intelligence Community employee or contractor.
  • Basic understanding of Cloud IaaS/SaaS delivery models with experience in AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google, or Oracle clouds.
  • Background in Network Security and basic knowledge of the OSI model, TCP/IP protocols, and access fundamentals.
