About the position

The Cybersecurity Researcher at Idaho National Laboratory will work within the Cyber Operations and Incident Response department, focusing on the analysis, design, development, and assessment of critical infrastructure systems and networks. The role involves implementing security protocols, evaluating firewalls, and developing methods to counter cyber-attacks, with a strong emphasis on vulnerability assessment and malware analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and reverse engineer anomalous/malicious software and binaries.
  • Research mitigation techniques and latest blue team methods.
  • Provide assistance and technical solutions for defensive posturing.
  • Develop incident response actions and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Organize and develop custom code for network traffic analysis and proprietary protocols.
  • Develop technical solutions for intrusion analysis, malware, systems vulnerabilities, and network security.
  • Identify security issues in existing control systems and develop prevention methods.
  • Conduct penetration testing and vulnerability assessments.
  • Write scripts and develop software utilities for security analysis automation.
  • Work with customers to develop requirements and provide documentation for products and software.
  • Participate in project teams to produce proposals for new work with government, academia, and industry.
  • Build customer relationships and support requests with briefings and papers.
  • Participate in forums to develop new concepts in Critical Infrastructure and Cyber Security.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Data/Computer Science or a closely related field (Level 1).
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Data/Computer Science or a closely related field and 2 years relevant experience (Level 2).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy 'Q' clearance, requiring US Citizenship.
