About the position

The Cybersecurity Risk Analyst or Senior Cybersecurity Risk Analyst at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign will play a crucial role in assisting university stakeholders in navigating regulatory requirements and managing cybersecurity risks. This position involves providing analytical support to inform decision-making processes related to technology use in university operations. The Senior level analyst will also take on leadership responsibilities, mentoring junior staff and guiding projects within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with the Privacy and Security team, university customers, and strategic partners on IT-related risks, requirements, policies, and standards.
  • Work with units, end users, and IT Professionals to advise on and provide user-focused education about security practices that align with the university's NIST-based cybersecurity policies.
  • Serve as a consultation resource for the Privacy and Security team, faculty, researchers, IT Professionals, and other employees on restricted data logistics, risks, and requirements.
  • Consult with faculty and researchers on technology control plans and grant proposals, ensuring compliance with cybersecurity requirements.
  • Advise on university requirements for security monitoring, detection, and response solutions.
  • Network and maintain relationships within the university community.
  • Proactively communicate relevant security-related information and stay informed of needs and initiatives.
  • Facilitate the university cybersecurity risk process among stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Senior Level Only: Cultivate subject-matter expertise in less experienced cybersecurity staff.
  • Senior Level Only: Provide recommendations on emerging issues for assigned domains to inform management decision-making.
  • Work independently to complete risk analysis tasks, projects, and duties in a timely manner.
  • Conduct risk and compliance reviews of projects and purchases, proposals, and policy exception requests.
  • Assist with periodic security assessments of systems and tools used across the university.
  • Produce risk and compliance assessment reports and draft documentation for security issues and procedures.
  • Participate in the cybersecurity risk management aspects of IT and administrative operations.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of risk-aware procedures and disaster recovery plans.
  • Represent the IT Security office in collaborative initiatives and present findings to various audiences.
  • Provide excellent customer service on behalf of the IT Security office and advocate for clients in service planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Cybersecurity Risk Analyst Level: 1 year of experience in information technology, risk management, compliance, auditing, or data governance.
  • Senior Cybersecurity Risk Analyst Level: 3 years of experience in the same fields with demonstrated experience in cybersecurity.
