About the position

The Cyclotron Engineer at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is responsible for operating the cyclotron to ensure the reliable production and delivery of radionuclides for clinical and research applications. This role involves assisting in cyclotron operations, performing preventative maintenance, and conducting repairs while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the cyclotron to ensure reliable production and delivery of radionuclides.
  • Assist in cyclotron operation, preventative maintenance, and repairs.
  • Maintain documentation in compliance with PET Production Facility policies.
  • Monitor fire and electrical safety within the facility.
  • Diagnose cyclotron issues and facilitate repairs in communication with vendors.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures for all cyclotron processes.
  • Work safely within the facility with cyclotron subsystems including high-voltage and RF systems, vacuum systems, and liquid and gas transport systems.
  • Collaborate with research investigators and support cyclotron-related research projects.
  • Track and trend cyclotron data.
  • Document all cyclotron maintenance and repairs.
  • Manage inventory of consumables and replacement parts for the cyclotron.
  • Ensure compliance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health, FDA, Radiation Safety Department, and hospital policies.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of automated radiochemistry systems.
  • Maintain positive relationships with vendors and hospital service providers.
  • Ship radioactive materials in compliance with DOT regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nuclear Physics, Engineering, or Medical Cyclotron Operations Training.
  • 0-2 years of working experience with cyclotron operations and engineering.
  • Proficient in the use of required tools and measurement devices.
  • Ability to lift 60 lbs.
  • Effective interpersonal, writing, and communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2-3 years of direct experience with cyclotron operations and engineering.
  • Experience in automated radiochemistry synthesis unit operation and maintenance.
