About the position

The Cytotechnologist at Houston Methodist Hospital is responsible for performing cytological tests, identifying cellular abnormalities, and ensuring quality control in laboratory procedures. This role involves direct patient care, collaboration with healthcare teams, and training of new staff. The position requires a Bachelor's degree and a valid CT (ASCP) certification, with a focus on maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all routine and complex laboratory procedures in the assigned work area.
  • Identify and interpret cellular abnormalities in cytological preparations.
  • Exhibit self-motivation in performing job duties and following procedures.
  • Collaborate with the patient care team by communicating pertinent patient care information.
  • Assist in the training of students and new employees as assigned.
  • Analyze quality control data and document corrective actions taken.
  • Process specimens and demonstrate knowledge of specimen requirements and laboratory rejection policies.
  • Maintain a safe environment within the laboratory, following all safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • CT(ASCP) certification within 1 year or SCT(ASCP) certification within 1 year.
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to operate multiple computer systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player.
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of experience as a Cytotechnologist is highly preferred.
