D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI) is seeking a real estate paralegal to join the firm's renewable energy business in Denver. This role is integral to providing real estate, transactional, and administrative support to various cross-functional teams, particularly focusing on real estate closings and title curative work. As a market leader in renewable energy, DESRI has developed or acquired approximately 10 gigawatts of contracted capacity across over 70 projects in 24 states. The paralegal will be part of a small, skilled team dedicated to supporting DESRI's portfolio of wind, solar, and energy storage projects. The work environment is inclusive, collaborative, and emphasizes thoughtful problem-solving and attention to detail. In this position, the paralegal will be responsible for ordering and reviewing title commitments, exception documents, and ALTA surveys. They will interface directly with title companies and surveyors to resolve any issues or discrepancies, ensuring the delivery of revised title commitments, title insurance pro formas, and final surveys for financing or closing transactions. The role also involves preparing and coordinating the execution and recordation of real estate agreements, including lease and easement agreements, along with associated memoranda, amendments, and terminations. The paralegal will handle landowner estoppels, subordination and non-disturbance agreements, and various other land, title, and curative documents, affidavits, and more. Additionally, the paralegal will coordinate, track, and report on the execution of projects, including title searches and title curative work, and will track project status reporting for a pipeline of real estate properties proposed or under option for project sites. They will conduct analysis, coordination, and procurement of crossing consents and crossing agreements with third parties, conveying and drafting compliance requirements to construction teams and contractors. The role also includes preparing and administering contract critical dates, electronic calendaring, and closing checklists, as well as coordinating and assisting with all aspects of closings.
