About the position

The DAE/TRIO/Upward Bound Program Coordinator at the University of Georgia plays a crucial role in supporting the educational needs of low-income, first-generation students. This position is responsible for recruiting, selecting, and orienting potential program participants, ensuring that they are well-informed and prepared to engage with the program. The coordinator will assist in the development and implementation of program objectives, which are designed to enhance the academic success and personal growth of participants. This includes participating in the selection and evaluation of program staff, as well as identifying and meeting the academic needs of participants through tailored support services. In addition to recruitment and orientation, the coordinator will maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation related to participant assessment and placement. This involves managing a comprehensive database that includes academic records, contact information, exit data, and evaluations. The coordinator will also be responsible for assessing participant needs and prescribing appropriate services, which may involve planning activities in collaboration with community agencies and target schools. The role requires arranging academic support services that provide individual and group counseling sessions, as well as career counseling to meet the diverse needs of participants. The coordinator will perform other counseling duties and support services as necessary, ensuring that all participants receive the guidance and resources they need to succeed academically and personally. This position is integral to fostering a supportive environment that encourages positive engagement and achievement among program participants.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate recruitment, selection, and orientation of project participants, outreach activities, and workshops.
  • Maintain accurate, up to date records and documentation of assessment and placement which includes maintaining a data base, academic records, contacts, exit information, and evaluations.
  • Assessment and prescribing participant services and plan activities in community agencies and target schools.
  • Arrange academic support services that provide individual, group, and career counseling sessions to meet participant needs. Perform other counseling duties and support services.

Requirements

  • Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate.
  • A sincere interest in the educational needs of the target population and a proven track record in motivating youth from low income, first generation families.
  • Ability to stimulate positive activity of program staff.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of economically and educationally disadvantaged youth.
