About the position

The Dairy/Frozen Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Dairy/Frozen Manager to ensure the effective operation and profitability of the Dairy/Frozen department. This position prioritizes providing World Class Customer Service and exemplifying integrity, responsibility, and excellence in all tasks. The Dairy/Frozen Assistant is responsible for creating an inviting and shoppable department, assisting in ordering and maintaining accurate inventory levels, and managing margin and overall department profitability. This includes minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing while ensuring that all in-stock products meet company standards. In addition to these responsibilities, the Dairy/Frozen Assistant will assist in merchandising shelves, endcaps, and dynamic displays, as well as participate in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock activities. The role also involves training and monitoring department personnel, conducting demos, and addressing performance issues within the department. The assistant will support store opening and closing activities, handle register functions, manage customer returns, and address customer complaints. The position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and entails working five days a week for a total of 40 hours. While the Dairy/Frozen Assistant has limited Manager on Duty responsibilities, they are expected to be hands-on and contribute to the overall success of the store. This role is essential in maintaining the safety and security of customers and employees while continually increasing product knowledge and utilizing inventory management software as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Dairy/Frozen Manager in the operation and profitability of the Dairy/Frozen department.
  • Provide World Class Customer Service as a top priority.
  • Create inviting, full, and shoppable departments.
  • Assist in ordering for the dairy and frozen departments and maintain accurate inventory levels.
  • Manage margin, COGs, and overall department profitability, minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.
  • Ensure all in-stock products meet company standards.
  • Offer and follow up on special orders.
  • Merchandise shelves, endcaps, and dynamic displays.
  • Participate in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock activities.
  • Train and monitor department personnel, assigning and following up on tasks.
  • Conduct active and passive demos.
  • Address performance issues within the department with the managers.
  • Support store opening and closing activities, including Daily Sales Report and cash handling.
  • Handle register functions, manage customer returns, and address customer complaints.
  • Maintain safety and security for customers and employees.
  • Answer customer questions per company standards and policies.
  • Increase product knowledge continually.
  • Utilize SAP and inventory management software as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in grocery or retail environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
  • 1 year of experience supervising others preferred.
  • Ability to pass food safety training courses and maintain compliance with certifications.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on tasks.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills and a sense of urgency in task completion.
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail.
  • Ability to take direction and follow through.
  • Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Experience in a natural foods background is a plus.
