About the position

The Dairy Manager will oversee the daily operations of a California dairy, managing a herd of over 1,500 milking cows. This role requires a strong background in dairy management, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including the Herd Manager, Veterinarian, Nutritionist, and other department managers. The Dairy Manager will be responsible for ensuring herd health, managing manure systems, and handling financial responsibilities related to inventory and feed contracting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the dairy farm.
• Coordinate with the Herd Manager on hiring, firing, training, and scheduling of employees.
• Manage herd health, nutrition, and breeding processes.
• Handle spreadsheets, inventory, purchasing, and contracting feed.
• Detect and solve issues related to dairy operations.
• Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Strong dairy management experience with a successful track record.
• Previous experience managing a large herd dairy operation of 1,500+ milking cows.
• Strong herd health skills and experience with reproduction.
• Understanding of nutrition related to dairy cattle.
• Proficient computer skills, including experience with Dairy Comp and Excel.
• Ability to speak Dairy Spanish fluently.
• Experience with contracting feed and managing financial responsibilities.
• Previous experience supervising 15+ employees.
