About the position

The Data Analyst role at Milliman is a pivotal position within the Atlantic Region Property and Casualty (P&C) practice, which has been providing actuarial consulting services for over 75 years. This hybrid position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to a team that tackles some of the most critical issues in the insurance and risk management sectors. The Data Analyst will support Actuarial Analysts and Consultants by performing essential analytical tasks that include data review, report updates, basic quantitative analysis, quality assurance, and project document editing. As the Data Analyst develops their skills, they will be entrusted with more complex assignments, allowing for professional growth and the opportunity to contribute significantly to client deliverables. The role requires a high level of professionalism and strong communication skills, as the Data Analyst will collaborate closely with colleagues and clients. Much of the work will be conducted using Excel, but familiarity with programming languages such as SQL, Python, and R is highly valued. While prior insurance experience is beneficial, it is not a prerequisite, as Milliman is committed to training new hires in the key concepts of analyzing and forecasting insurance reserves and rates. The Data Analyst position does not involve enrollment in the actuarial exam program, but successful individuals may have the opportunity to transition into an actuarial student position after gaining sufficient experience. Responsibilities

  • Perform data review and report updates.
  • Conduct basic quantitative analysis and quality assurance.
  • Edit project documents to ensure accuracy and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with Actuarial Analysts and Consultants on various client projects.
  • Utilize Excel for data analysis and reporting tasks.
  • Develop skills in supplemental data analysis methodologies and technical skills such as SQL, Python, and R.

Requirements

  • Completed bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative field such as actuarial science, mathematics, or statistics.
  • Up to two years of professional work experience with a focus on quantitative and data-driven tasks.
  • Substantial experience using MS Excel, including filters, sorting, summarizing, and pivot tables.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Word.
