About the position

The Palliative and Advanced Illness Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking two data managers to support clinical trials, observational cohort studies, and pilot programs. The role involves understanding study protocols and creating structured analytic files, data collection tools, and managing data pipelines. Candidates should have strong programming skills in R and/or Python, and SQL, with a focus on healthcare data management.

Responsibilities

• Understand PAIR's study protocols and translate them into structured analytic files and data collection tools.
• Create and maintain documentation for data resources.
• Design, test, and maintain data flows and databases to support study recruitment and data collection.
• Write R scripts to assess data quality and prepare analysis-ready datasets.
• Review drafts of data use agreements and ensure compliance.
• Provide training to research coordinators and project managers on data processes.
• Contribute to the development of organizational systems for data files and documentation.
• Create flowcharts and summary documents to facilitate understanding of data workflows.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Master's preferred).
• 2-3 years of experience for Data Analyst C; 3-5 years for Data Analyst D.
• Experience programming in R or Python.
• Experience programming in SQL or similar environments.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with healthcare research and concepts.
• Epic Clarity certifications, especially from the Clinical Data Model track.
• Experience with MS Access and SAS.
