About the position

The Data Analyst (Data Scientist) position at the U.S. Social Security Administration involves leading and coordinating data management efforts to solve complex issues. The role requires conducting statistical analyses, developing predictive models, and utilizing machine learning and AI techniques. The analyst will work collaboratively with teams to create data products, prepare data for analysis, and maintain data procedures, while also translating complex findings into understandable language for various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate efforts of agency professionals and contractors in data management.
  • Conduct statistical analyses and develop predictive models using statistical techniques, machine learning, and AI.
  • Utilize tools such as R, Python, or SAS for data analysis and model development.
  • Prepare and clean data for analysis using appropriate analytic and statistical software.
  • Conduct observational analyses to explore data, test hypotheses, and inform decisions.
  • Develop, integrate, and maintain data and ETL procedures for structured and unstructured data.
  • Translate complex concepts and findings into plain language for diverse audiences.
  • Serve as a resource and leader for Federal and contractor staff on large-scale data analysis projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with statistical software such as SAS, R, and SQL.
  • Proficiency in machine learning and AI techniques.
  • Experience in transforming unprocessed or unstructured data for analysis using R, Python, SAS, or SQL.
  • Ability to prepare research reports and technical papers for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data visualization tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms for data storage and analysis.
