About the position

The Data Analyst position at the Social Security Administration (SSA) focuses on combating fraud through data analysis and research. The role involves utilizing various analytical techniques, including statistical modeling, machine learning, and geospatial analysis, to support the Office of Program Integrity in detecting and preventing fraudulent activities. The position requires collaboration with other professionals and contractors to address complex data management challenges and to develop data products that inform decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate efforts of agency professionals and contractors in solving complex data management issues.
  • Conduct statistical analyses and develop predictive models using statistical techniques, machine learning, and AI with tools such as R, Python, or SAS.
  • Collaborate with teams to develop data products and definitions, preparing and cleaning data for analysis.
  • Perform observational analyses using R, Python, or SQL to explore data, test hypotheses, and predict outcomes.
  • Develop, integrate, and maintain data and ETL procedures for structured and unstructured data.
  • Translate complex concepts and findings into concise, plain language for various audiences.
  • Serve as a resource and leader for Federal and contractor staff on large-scale data analysis projects.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field at least at the baccalaureate level.
  • 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level or equivalent, involving technical expertise in large datasets and statistical or machine learning techniques.
  • Experience in transforming unprocessed or unstructured data into a suitable form for analysis using R, Python, SAS, or SQL.
  • Ability to prepare research reports and technical papers for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with geospatial analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with federal data management policies and practices.
