About the position

The Data Analyst (Data Scientist) position involves leading and coordinating efforts to address complex data management challenges within the agency. The role requires conducting statistical analyses, developing predictive models, and collaborating with teams to create data products. The analyst will also be responsible for maintaining data procedures and translating complex findings into understandable language for various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate data management efforts among agency professionals and contractors.
• Conduct statistical analyses and develop predictive models using tools such as R, Python, or SAS.
• Collaborate with teams to develop data products and definitions.
• Prepare and clean data for analysis using appropriate analytic and statistical software.
• Conduct observational analyses using R, Python, or SQL to explore data and inform decisions.
• Develop, integrate, and maintain data and ETL procedures for structured and unstructured data.
• Translate complex concepts and findings into plain language for stakeholders.
• Serve as a resource and leader for Federal and contractor staff on large-scale data analysis projects.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
• 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-13 level or equivalent, involving technical expertise in large datasets and statistical or machine learning techniques.
• Experience in transforming unprocessed or unstructured data into suitable forms for analysis using R, Python, SAS, or SQL.
• Ability to prepare research reports and technical papers for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques.
