About the position

The Data Analyst I position within the Research Analytics team at the University of Missouri focuses on analyzing sponsored projects and competitive intelligence information to support strategic decision-making. The role involves collaboration with various units within the Division of Research, Innovation, and Impact (RII) to create custom data analyses, establish data standards, and identify best practices, ultimately aiming for sustainable data reporting. The position requires strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Produce ad hoc and periodical reporting by utilizing university data warehouses, primarily by writing SQL, manipulating data in Excel, and using Power BI.
  • Extensively use Excel's advanced functionality, such as pivot tables, Power Query, and VBA, to develop and optimize routine reporting.
  • Produce complex, action-driven, competitive intelligence products based on funding program analyses, faculty data, bibliometric trends, national datasets, etc.
  • Thoroughly understand and engage in process improvements for sponsored project administration.
  • Train users on accessing, understanding, and utilizing reports that the Research Analytics team creates.
  • Effectively communicate in all modalities, explain complex concepts, and tailor communications by audience.
  • Use statistical methods to analyze data, visualize trends, and create models.
  • Maintain documentation for all data management, analyses, and reporting activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in data analytics and reporting.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years of experience in data analytics and reporting.
  • 1+ years experience working in higher education, preferably in research administration or research.
  • Project-level experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Project-level track record of effective communication.
  • Basic knowledge of statistical methods preferred.
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational/dimensional databases preferred.
  • Prior customer service experience (of any kind) preferred.
  • Experience with high visibility and/or fast turnaround deliverables preferred.
  • Graduate degree preferred.
