About the position

The Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University is seeking a Data Analyst I to support innovative research in genomics and phenomics within livestock production systems. This position involves playing an integral role in a collaborative team led by the Lush Endowed Chair in Animal Breeding and Genetics, working closely with faculty principal investigators (PIs), graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers. The primary responsibilities of the role include actively participating in research projects focused on collecting, analyzing, and organizing a wide range of data from food animal species, including genomics, phenomics, and additional omics layers. The selected candidate will be required to write and maintain computer programs that manage large research datasets, ensuring the data is organized, cleaned, stored, and retrieved effectively to support ongoing research efforts. Additionally, the role involves assisting with the preparation and submission of animal use care forms, data management plans, and other related administrative tasks. While this is a support staff position, the department encourages all lab members to engage in continuous learning and development. The selected candidate will be invited to create an individual development plan, with the PI team providing support and opportunities to help achieve their professional goals. Proficiency in data management programming, strong organizational skills, and experience in genomics or phenomics are key qualifications for this role. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and forward-thinking team at the forefront of computational research in livestock farming—an emerging field with vast career potential. Our team is engaged in groundbreaking research that leverages advanced computational tools, artificial intelligence, and large datasets in genetics and phenomics. You'll have the chance to work with cutting-edge technology, including image analysis and AI-driven data processing, to drive innovations in animal breeding and production systems. In addition to the exciting research, you'll be part of a vibrant, fun, and highly collaborative environment. Our diverse team brings together experts from Animal Science, Computing, Physiology, and Genomics, creating a rich interdisciplinary space where ideas flow freely, and everyone's contributions are valued. If you're passionate about data science and want to be part of a research community that is shaping the future of livestock production, this is the perfect role for you.
