About the position

The Suwannee River Water Management District is seeking a Data Analyst III or Senior Data Analyst to join their team in Live Oak, Florida. This professional role is crucial for the protection and management of Florida's vital water resources. The selected candidate will be responsible for collecting, compiling, reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting environmental data, as well as developing procedures for maintaining and integrating this data. The position involves automating data processes, conducting analyses and reporting routines, and establishing quality control procedures to ensure the integrity of the data collected. In this role, the Data Analyst will manage various datasets, including hydrologic, agricultural, and water quality monitoring data. The candidate will also oversee the Hydstra database and manage data imports, ensuring that the data management needs of the District are met effectively. The analyst will support quality control and assurance processes, perform statistical analyses on broad datasets, and develop standard operating procedures for data collection and management. Additionally, the role requires constructing complex programmatic scripts for data analysis and maintenance using programming languages such as Python and Perl. The Data Analyst will actively participate in field data collection and training, assist with compiling and reporting agricultural water use data, and serve as a critical member of the District Incident Command Team. This includes ensuring data backup and response related to river and rainfall information, as well as managing database inquiries. The position also involves developing and managing contracts, task work assignments, and purchase orders as needed. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the District's mission.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science or mathematics (hydrology, natural science, or engineering) and three years of professional experience in data collection, processing, or management.
  • Master's degree in relevant fields can substitute for one year of experience.
  • Professional experience in data management can substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Python and Perl programming languages are required.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Experience with Hydstra software and ESRI/ArcGIS geodatabase management is preferred.
  • Knowledge of R programming language and SAS analytical software is preferred.
  • Experience analyzing extensive datasets using complex statistical analyses is preferred.
