About the position

The Data Analyst in Internal Audit at OceanFirst Bank plays a crucial role in supporting bank audits and projects by ensuring compliance with internal controls, policies, and regulations. This position involves managing automated work paper solutions and collaborating with various teams to analyze data, identify trends, and provide insights that drive process improvements and efficiency gains.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze large datasets from various sources to identify patterns, trends, and relationships.
  • Develop and maintain data models, dashboards, and reports to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to understand their data needs and provide analytical support.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains through data analysis.
  • Use statistical techniques and data visualization tools to present findings in a clear and meaningful way to stakeholders.
  • Conduct ad hoc data analysis and research to address specific business questions or challenges.
  • Work directly with other Audit members on data and/or application related projects.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data analysis.
  • Prepare complete and accurate workpapers throughout the audit process.
  • Communicate and discuss findings with business unit management.
  • Conduct research and successfully complete assigned training requirements necessary to maintain relevance.
  • Establish relationships with business/operations auditors to meet the operational and analytics needs of the organization.
  • Document process flows and data flows.
  • Execute control design and operating effectiveness testing over areas as part of internal audit reviews and activities.
  • Advise on data analysis solutions, approaches to problems, associated costs and trade-offs, and recommendations.
  • Design and execute data quality checks and applicable internal audit data analytics.
  • Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders across the firm to stay abreast of changes to the data architecture and source new data for use in audit analytics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to distill key strategic insights from technical information and data.
  • Strong SQL skills and ability to create reports/dashboards with analytic tools (Tableau, PowerBI, ACL, etc.) is required.
  • Good programming foundation and understanding of databases with experience working as an analytical programmer is an advantage.
  • Strong project/task management and risk assessment skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient PC and software skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in a relevant field of study (i.e., Accounting, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Data Science, MIS, Engineering, Math).
  • A minimum of 2 years of recent experience with data, including data sourcing, data analysis, and data integration.
