About the position

The Data Analyst position at Houston Methodist Academic Institute is responsible for providing analytical support for data generated by the department, focusing on accurate data collection, maintenance of databases, and reporting statistical information and patient outcomes. Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating, designing, and implementing processes for accurate data collection and input.
  • Maintain department database and provide ongoing training for end users.
  • Gather, analyze, and report statistical information and patient outcomes to internal and external customers.
  • Provide monthly departmental reports and ensure timely regulatory reporting completion.
  • Make recommendations for technology and processes to support departmental goals with an emphasis on regulatory compliance.
  • Communicate results of queries in database systems to coworkers and management.
  • Work directly with physicians and clinical staff on customized data queries for operational and research needs.
  • Conduct routine data processing and implement quality control methods.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Participate in performance improvement programs for the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, physics, or related field.
  • Three years of experience in data analysis, preferably in a healthcare/research setting.
  • Strong background in computer programming and proficiency in Excel, Access, and shell scripting.
  • Excellent analytical and statistical skills with experience in report writing.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, and co-workers.
  • Experience in relational database design and familiarity with neuroinformatic software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous database project management experience.
  • Knowledge of medical practices and terminology.
