About the position

The Data Analyst position at the Penn Wharton Budget Model (PWBM) involves supporting research on public policy topics through data-driven analysis. The role focuses on model development, statistical analysis, and the maintenance of databases, contributing to discussions on issues such as tax reform, healthcare, and immigration. The analyst will work with cutting-edge technologies and programming methods to inform policy discussions in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to research and model development for policy and economic analysis using Python and R.
  • Compile, clean, organize, and maintain datasets; perform statistical analysis in support of PWBM research projects.
  • Analyze data and create tables and charts for PWBM research and publications.
  • Assist in writing PWBM publications, including issue briefs, blog posts, working papers, and model documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a research associate/data analyst or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R.
  • Experience working with microdata or data from Federal statistical agencies like the Census Bureau, BLS, and BEA.
  • Strong interest in economics and public policy with an aptitude for graduate-level research.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated self-starter.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience serving as a research associate/data analyst or pursuing independent research as an undergraduate.
  • Experience with SQL.
