About the position

The Data Analyst position at Houston Methodist is responsible for providing analytical support for data generated by the department. This role involves creating, designing, and implementing processes to ensure accurate data collection and input, maintaining the department database, and training end users. The Data Analyst will gather, analyze, and report statistical information and patient outcomes, ensuring timely regulatory reporting and making recommendations for technology and process improvements to support departmental goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating, designing, and implementing processes for accurate data collection and input.
  • Maintain the department database and provide ongoing training for end users.
  • Gather, analyze, and report statistical information and patient outcomes to internal and external customers.
  • Provide monthly departmental reports and ensure timely completion of regulatory reporting.
  • Communicate results of database queries and upgrades to coworkers and management.
  • Work directly with physicians and clinical staff on customized data queries and requests.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for technical issues related to data management.
  • Conduct routine data processing and implement quality control methods.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Participate in performance improvement programs for the department.
  • Conduct statistical analyses for multiple studies and develop algorithms for numerical methods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, physics, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in data analysis, preferably in a healthcare or research setting.
  • Strong background in computer programming and proficiency in Excel, Access, and shell scripting.
  • Experience with relational database design and knowledge of medical practices and terminology is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and statistical skills, with experience in report writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with common imaging tools and neuroinformatic software.
  • Previous database project management experience.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact well with medical staff.
