About the position

Initiate Government Solutions (IGS) is seeking a remote Data Analyst/QA to support our work with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Founded in 2007, IGS is a Woman Owned Small Business that specializes in providing innovative IT services across the federal sector, focusing on data analytics, health informatics, cloud migration, and modernization of federal information systems. As a Data Analyst/QA, you will be responsible for designing and architecting database solutions that meet business requirements while ensuring scalability, availability, and performance. You will collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to define requirements, database schemas, indexes, and query optimizations to enhance application performance. Your role will also involve leading the implementation and management of database deployments on AWS and Azure, including provisioning, configuration, and optimization of cloud-native database architectures. In addition, you will conduct performance tuning, query optimization, and resource utilization analysis to optimize database performance. Implementing monitoring and alerting solutions will be crucial to proactively identify and address database performance issues. You will also define and implement database security policies and conduct regular security assessments to protect sensitive data. Your responsibilities will include developing automation scripts for database provisioning and maintaining comprehensive documentation for database architectures and operational procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Design and architect database solutions to meet business requirements, ensuring scalability, availability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to define requirements, database schemas, indexes, and query optimizations for optimal application performance.
  • Lead the implementation and management of database deployments on AWS and Azure, including provisioning, configuration, and optimization.
  • Define and implement cloud-native database architectures leveraging AWS and Azure services such as Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, Amazon DynamoDB, Cosmos DB and others.
  • Conduct performance tuning, query optimization, and resource utilization analysis to optimize database performance.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify and address database performance issues.
  • Define and implement database security policies, procedures, and controls to protect sensitive data and conduct regular security assessments/audits to identify and remediate potential vulnerabilities.
  • Develop automation scripts and templates for database provisioning, configuration, and deployment using infrastructure as code (IaC) principles.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database architectures, configurations, and operational procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or equivalent degree.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated technical, IT, or Operations experience within a large-scale technology services environment in software development, database design, and infrastructure support.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Public Trust security clearance.
  • Strong proficiency in database administration, architecture, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with Massachusetts General Hospital Utility Multi-Programming System (MUMPS) code in support of releases within the VA's Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA).
  • Experience with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Transaction Application Suite (TAS) programs.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, including infrastructure design, deployment, and management.
  • Experience with automation tools and scripting languages for infrastructure and database management (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Python).
  • Experience developing strategies for data migration, backup, and disaster recovery in cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools for continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across teams and departments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or other health-related organizations desired.
  • MongoDB certification, AWS certification, Azure certification, etc. are a plus.
  • Experience in SAFe/Agile Software Development.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-stakeholder and DevSecOps environment.
  • Active VA Public Trust security clearance.
  • Prior, successful experience working in a remote environment.
