About the position

The DECODE LAB group at Nemours and the Biomedical Research Informatics Center (BRIC) is seeking a motivated Data Analyst to conduct research for both internally and externally funded projects of interest in a multi-PI laboratory setting. This position will work under the Department of Neurology in conjunction with the BRIC as part of a growing group of biomedical informatics staff at Nemours. The Data Analyst will primarily report to Dr. Hernan. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Neuroscience or Cognitive Science, with experience working with small animals being strongly preferred. In this role, the Data Analyst will perform a range of experiments and data analyses under the direction of multiple principal investigators (PIs). The position may require performing experiments during certain weekends or after hours, depending on the needs of the experiments. Key responsibilities include signal acquisition and processing from cells, as well as utilizing microscopy skills, particularly in calcium imaging data. The candidate should also possess animal handling skills, with surgical skills being preferred, and experience in in vivo electrophysiology is a plus. Programming knowledge in languages such as Matlab, Python, or R is essential for this position. The Data Analyst will be responsible for maintaining organized and detailed handwritten and computerized records of work performed. Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to foster a collaborative team environment. Additionally, the candidate should have a solid understanding of statistical methods and be able to present data effectively during lab meetings and conferences. Participation in monthly meetings with the Nemours Bio-Informatics group is also expected.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Post Graduate Degree in Neuroscience or Cognitive Science.
  • At least one year of relevant experience working with small animals.
  • Programming knowledge in Matlab, Python, or R.
  • Statistical knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills conducive to working in a team.

  • Experience with calcium imaging data.
