About the position

The DECODE LAB group at Nemours, in collaboration with the Biomedical Research Informatics Center (BRIC), is seeking a motivated Data Analyst to contribute to research projects that are both internally and externally funded. This role is situated within a multi-PI laboratory setting under the Department of Neurology, and it is part of a growing team of biomedical informatics professionals at Nemours. The Data Analyst will primarily report to Dr. Hernan and will be involved in a variety of research activities that require a strong background in neuroscience or cognitive science, particularly with experience in working with small animals. The Data Analyst will be responsible for conducting a range of experiments and performing data analyses under the guidance of multiple principal investigators. This may include signal acquisition and processing from cells, as well as utilizing microscopy techniques, with a particular emphasis on calcium imaging data. The role also requires animal handling skills, with surgical skills being preferred, and experience in in vivo electrophysiology is highly desirable. The candidate should possess programming knowledge in languages such as Matlab, Python, or R, and must maintain organized and detailed records of all work performed, both handwritten and computerized. In addition to technical skills, the position demands excellent interpersonal skills to foster effective teamwork. The Data Analyst will be expected to present data during lab meetings and conferences, and to attend monthly meetings with the Nemours Bio-Informatics group. This role is contingent upon funding and requires a commitment to laboratory etiquette and collaboration within a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a range of experiments and data analyses under the direction of multiple principal investigators.

Requirements

  • Post Graduate Degree in Neuroscience or Cognitive Science.
  • Experience working with small animals (strongly preferred).
  • At least one year of relevant experience.
  • Programming knowledge in Matlab, Python, or R.
  • Statistical knowledge.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with calcium imaging data.
  • Surgical skills for animal handling.
  • In vivo electrophysiology experience.
