About the position

The Data and Business Intelligence Analyst at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill plays a crucial role in supporting the university's mission through statistical analysis, data analytics, and business intelligence. This position is responsible for informing decision-making, planning, and continuous improvement across the university, while also ensuring compliance with external accreditation standards. The analyst will engage in various reporting needs, develop interactive reporting applications, and foster collaborative relationships with campus organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Support the institution's internal and public-facing strategic and operational reporting needs.
  • Translate information requests into analyses and appropriate reporting objects, including statistical reports, narrative summaries, dashboards, and analytic scorecards.
  • Provide analytic programming support using tools such as R, Python, or SAS.
  • Integrate information from various campus operational and data warehouse systems, synthesizing and analyzing data for reports.
  • Develop and implement web-based interactive reporting applications using dashboard tools like Tableau, R, SAS Visual Analytics, and Microsoft Power BI.
  • Create sustainable data models using SQL and database tools.
  • Build collaborative relationships between the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) and other campus organizations.
  • Contribute to or develop business intelligence and data modeling standards and guidelines.
  • Lead or coordinate small teams of developers for project completion.

Requirements

  • Master's degree and 1-2 years' experience; or Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years' experience; or a combination of related education and experience.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy in handling large data sets.
  • Experience using complex SQL queries to extract data from databases.
  • Ability to conduct basic statistical analyses using tools such as SPSS, Stata, SAS, and Excel.
  • Experience presenting information in an easily interpretable format for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Four or more years of analytic programming experience using tools like R, Python, and SAS.
  • Experience building web-based, interactive dashboards and other business intelligence objects using commercial data visualization tools.
  • Experience creating database objects in an enterprise quality relational database system.
