About the position

The Data and Gift Specialist I at Children's Mercy is responsible for processing charitable donations and maintaining accurate donor records. This role requires attention to detail, critical thinking, and effective communication skills to ensure the integrity of donor information and the efficient processing of donations. The position is integral to supporting the hospital's philanthropic efforts and requires collaboration with various teams within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Enter information and create records for donors, volunteers, and event attendees into Raiser's Edge.
  • Maintain accurate records for periodic reporting requirements and perform data clean-up.
  • Collect, evaluate, sort, and total daily donations, preparing them for processing and remote deposit.
  • Analyze gifts to determine appropriate campaigns, funds, and appeals for processing.
  • Process credit card and online donations, including refunds as needed.
  • Work with Philanthropy and Children's Mercy staff regarding gifts received and follow up on missing information.
  • Track major fundraising events in the donor software program.
  • Perform data entry and reconciliation procedures to comply with hospital and IRS rules.
  • Assist with data integrity projects and maintain accurate donor information.
  • Volunteer at special events as needed and produce honor/memorial cards and acknowledgments.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of experience in fundraising or philanthropic operations, including data entry and gift processing.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data management.
  • Effective communication skills, both spoken and written.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Raiser's Edge or similar donor management software.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices.
