About the position

The County of San Diego is seeking a Data and Research Analyst to conduct data analysis and research that informs decisions related to policies, resource allocations, and operations. This role involves handling highly confidential information and collaborating with various departments, particularly within the Sheriff's Office. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and experience in data management, particularly in the government sector, and will be responsible for designing and implementing data analysis projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct data analysis and research to inform policy and operational decisions.
  • Apply rigorous analytic thinking to the collection and analysis of data.
  • Support projects through cleaning and transforming various types of data.
  • Create analytical datasets for different types of projects.
  • Perform descriptive and exploratory data analyses.
  • Contribute creative ideas for new projects or changes to existing projects.
  • Provide technical assistance for data collection, cleaning, transformation, or analysis.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary team activities, supporting analytic tasks with technical expertise.
  • Create and maintain well-documented code and documentation for reproducibility.
  • Extract and interpret data to identify trends and community needs.
  • Build dashboards and reports to visualize data statistics.
  • Collect, analyze, and manage data to develop and monitor performance measures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in statistics, data analytics, computer science, information systems, management information, or a related field.
  • Four years of full-time experience performing data analysis and/or research activities.
  • Experience in the government sector is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and reporting tools.
  • Understanding of PeopleSoft.

  • Experience with data management in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Flexibility to act as a data analyst or project manager as needed.
