About the position

As a Data Architect at GOBankingRates, you will lead the Data Engineering team in developing and maintaining the Enterprise Data Platform. This role involves translating business requirements into technology solutions, defining data standards, and managing a high-performing data team. You will oversee the architecture strategy, focusing on building scalable data platforms and ensuring optimal performance while implementing security measures and mentoring team members.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable data platforms based on business needs and industry trends.
  • Enforce common data design patterns to enhance code maintainability and establish data architecture standards.
  • Monitor data platform performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements.
  • Implement security measures to protect sensitive data in the cloud environment.
  • Conduct peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Mentor junior team members and stakeholders on data architecture and AWS cloud services.
  • Communicate complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.
  • Develop training materials and conduct training sessions on AWS cloud services and data architecture.
  • Document design, operation, and troubleshooting procedures for technology platforms.
  • Partner with team leads to identify and implement internal process improvements.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in data engineering, focusing on data pipeline development and cloud-based solutions.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in building and managing high-performing technical teams, including hiring and onboarding talent.
  • Experience designing and managing scalable data platforms in a cloud environment, preferably AWS.
  • Proficiency in AWS services such as S3, Airflow, DBT, GLUE, and LAMBDA; expert level experience in Snowflake is preferred.
  • Proficient in SQL and at least one programming language (Python, Java, or Scala).
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, data modeling, data governance, and data quality management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with data modeling tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of performance tuning and solving scalability issues on distributed platforms.
  • Vendor management skills to evaluate new technologies and services.
