About the position

The Data Architect 2 (Project Coordinator) position is responsible for providing senior strategic and technical leadership within the enterprise data architecture project lifecycle. This role involves modeling and designing end-to-end enterprise database solutions, collaborating with stakeholders to align project outcomes with business requirements, and overseeing the implementation of enterprise data management technical solutions. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of data management principles and standards, as well as supervisory experience in data architecture and related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior strategic and technical leadership within the enterprise data architecture project lifecycle.
  • Model and design end-to-end enterprise database solutions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align project outcomes with business requirements.
  • Establish data management principles and standards.
  • Oversee the implementation of enterprise data management technical solutions.
  • Administer technologies related to Data Modeling, Data Integration, and Data Warehousing.
  • Collaborate with user experience, business analysts, and business stakeholders to devise and implement enterprise data strategies.
  • Provide technical oversight and support during the data architecture project implementation phase.
  • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of the NYS Enterprise Data Governance Policy.
  • Evaluate new and emerging technologies for inclusion in a data management technical solutions catalog.
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement in data management solution architecture processes and practices.

Requirements

  • Nine (9) years of broad information technology (IT) experience with a comprehensive understanding of software engineering, data engineering, database administration, or other data-related specialty.
  • At least five (5) years of specialized experience in data management solution architecture, database design, software development, modeling, or warehousing.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory-level experience in data architecture, software engineering, data engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Earned college degrees in computer science, software engineering, IT, or a related field may substitute for specified years of experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant data management-industry certification (e.g., Arcitura Certified Big Data Architect, Certified Data Management Professional, IBM Certified Data Architect - Big Data).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, SQL, Scala.
  • Strong familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases, ETL/ELT tools, and data-related technologies.
  • Understanding of data science concepts, data modeling, data analysis, and ML frameworks.
  • Knowledge of analytics techniques and tools like Microsoft Power BI and Tableau.
  • Proficiency with modeling tools such as Enterprise Architect, Erwin, or PowerDesign.
  • Strong metadata management skills and understanding of data lifecycle management (DLM).
  • Knowledge of security, compliance, and regulatory requirements relevant to data management.
