About the position

The Data Platform Architect is responsible for the end-to-end design, implementation, and management of data platforms that support Apptio's data-driven initiatives. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including data strategy, architecture, integration, security, governance, performance optimization, collaboration, documentation, monitoring, support, and scalability. The architect will ensure that the data platform architecture aligns with the overall goals and objectives of Apptio's business and vision. Key outputs of this role include the alignment of the data platform architecture, platform design, data modeling, data integration design, standards documentation, and architecture to support partner solutions. Additionally, the architect will focus on performance optimization to ensure that the data solutions meet the business needs effectively. In this position, the Data Platform Architect will work closely with various stakeholders to translate complex technical concepts into clear and actionable guidance. The role requires a strong understanding of various database technologies, data integration frameworks, and cloud services. The architect will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with data security and privacy laws and regulations, making it essential to have a solid understanding of these areas. The position demands excellent communication and collaboration skills, as the architect will need to work with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality data solutions that drive business value. The Data Platform Architect will also be involved in the continuous improvement of data processes and systems, ensuring that the data architecture evolves in line with emerging technologies and business requirements. This role is critical in helping Apptio leverage its data assets to gain insights and drive decision-making across the organization. The architect will play a key role in fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making and innovation within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement data platforms that support Apptio's data-driven initiatives.
  • Develop and manage data strategy, architecture, integration, security, and governance.
  • Optimize performance of data solutions to align with business goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate technical concepts into actionable guidance.
  • Document standards and architecture to support partner solutions.
  • Monitor and support data platforms to ensure scalability and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with data security and privacy laws and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in a data architect role with a demonstrated track record of developing large-scale data solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of various database technologies (SQL, NoSQL) and data integration frameworks (ETL/ELT).
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark).
  • Proficient in at least one programming language (Python, Java, Scala).
  • Expertise in data modeling and data warehousing principles.
  • Solid understanding of data security and privacy laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in AI and machine learning model deployment.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD processes.
  • Prior experience in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
  • Knowledge of metadata management, data catalog, reporting/BI, visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Experience embedding or integrating third-party integration and reporting/BI platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
  • Professional certifications related to data architecture (e.g., TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect).
