As a Principal Data Architect, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the data landscape that supports our analytics initiatives across our global brands. This position is not just about managing data; it’s about owning the data model/schema that underpins our analytics efforts. You will be responsible for establishing modeling standards and ensuring compliance with these standards across various data assets, including Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse Data Warehouse, and Azure Analysis Services. In this role, you will collaborate closely with delivery teams and subject matter experts to create data warehousing solutions that are not only reliable and flexible but also scalable and cost-effective. Your expertise will guide the design, development, documentation, and application of best practices that govern the implementation of our data assets. You will also be instrumental in developing a roadmap for new analytic capabilities and technologies, ensuring that Columbia Sportswear remains at the forefront of data-driven decision-making. As a leader in this space, you will partner with the Enterprise Architecture team to align our data strategy with the broader enterprise strategy. Your role will also involve providing technical mentoring, guidance, and training to our Data and Analytics engineering resources, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.

Responsibilities

• Own the data model/schema in support of Columbia Sportswear's analytics initiatives.
• Establish appropriate modeling standards and develop processes to ensure compliance with these standards.
• Work closely with delivery teams and subject matter experts to deliver reliable, flexible, and scalable data warehousing solutions.
• Participate in the design, development, documentation, and application of best practices for data assets implementation.
• Develop a roadmap for new analytic capabilities and technologies to be evolved and adopted.
• Partner with Enterprise Architecture on enterprise strategy alignment.
• Provide technical mentoring, guidance, and training to Data and Analytics engineering resources.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience delivering data-centric solutions on warehousing, big data, and cloud platforms.
• 3+ years of experience in designing and tuning a MPP environment.
• 3+ years of experience with an Enterprise Reporting Suite, preferably PowerBI or Analysis Services.
• Expertise in SQL and query optimization techniques.
• Expertise in data modeling techniques, specifically Kimball and Inmon.
