About the position

The Data Architect/Data Services Specialist is responsible for enhancing the company's data utilization as a strategic asset to achieve corporate objectives. This role involves designing, developing, and implementing data models for enterprise-level and customer-facing applications, focusing on clinical, customer, and product-related data. The specialist will advocate for data modeling methodologies and best practices while managing ETL jobs and data warehousing using the SAP Data Services platform.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver long-term strategic goals for clinical and corporate data architecture and standards.
  • Establish an overall clinical data infrastructure roadmap and implementation plan.
  • Gather and review business requirements and processes, conducting interviews or workshops.
  • Translate Business Requirements Documents (BRDs) and User Stories into conceptual and logical data models.
  • Develop mapping documents that demonstrate data lineage and relationships.
  • Establish processes for governing corporate and clinical metadata accuracy and validity.
  • Track data quality, completeness, redundancy, and improvement.
  • Conduct clinical data capacity planning and feasibility studies.
  • Create strategies for clinical data security, backup, disaster recovery, and archiving.
  • Perform visualization design and complete challenging visualization projects independently.
  • Partner with stakeholders to develop meaningful clinical and product data reports.
  • Liaise with vendors to select products or services that meet company goals.
  • Assess governance and stewardship frameworks for managing clinical data.
  • Develop and promote data management methodologies and standards within regulatory compliance.
  • Lead mapping of clinical data sources and ensure data quality.
  • Address clinical data-related problems regarding systems integration.
  • Document the data architecture and environment for accuracy.
  • Identify opportunities for data reuse, migration, or retirement.
  • Assist and support other employees and teams as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in technical leadership, project management, and resource management.
  • 7+ years' work experience as a data or information architect.
  • 7+ years' work experience as an ETL developer, preferably with SAP Data Services.
  • 7 years' experience with modeling tools (e.g., SAP Power Designer, ER/Win, ER/Studio).
  • 7 years of relevant data analysis experience with SQL, R, SAS, Python, and data visualization tools (e.g., SAP Business Objects, Tableau).
  • 3-5 years' experience working with clinical data in a medical device industry setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of Web services (SOAP, XML, UDDI, WSDL) and open APIs.
  • Broad understanding of cloud development technologies and trends.
  • Good knowledge of data privacy practices and laws.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Advanced Subject Matter Expert in clinical data areas.
  • Experience with mission-critical applications optimized for cloud or virtualized environments.
  • Strong experience with SDLC, Agile methodologies, Microservices, API, EDI, and cloud technologies.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends in PaaS, SaaS, mobile app API, AI, and Machine Learning.
  • Object-oriented programming experience (e.g., Java, J2EE, .NET).
  • Scripting experience (R, Python).
