About the position

The Data Architect (Expert-Level) position is a critical role that involves providing strategic oversight and technical guidance in the design and development of database structures. This role is essential for ensuring that the databases support the evolving applications and business processes of the organization. The Data Architect will work closely with senior database administrators and application developers to create new databases and maintain existing ones, ensuring they meet the necessary standards and requirements. In this position, the Data Architect will consult with all levels of the organization, offering expertise on the design, development, and implementation of logical database structures and classification schemas. They will be responsible for developing policies and procedures that facilitate the building, maintenance, and leveraging of the data model. Additionally, the Data Architect will provide technical guidance on the development of metadata tags, Document Type Definitions (DTD), and schemas, utilizing appropriate technologies to represent data and its relationships effectively. A key aspect of this role is ensuring that metadata and data standards align with both business and mission processes, as well as system implementation approaches. The Data Architect will also need to adhere to the National System for Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG) and the Analysis Support Group (ASG) requirements for data sharing, making this position vital for the organization's data governance and management strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Consults to all levels of the organization on the design, development and implementation approaches for logical database structures and classification schemas.
  • Develops policies and procedures to build, maintain and leverage the data model.
  • Provides technical, strategic guidance on the development of metadata tags, Document Type Definitions (DTD), and schemas using appropriate technologies for representation of data and data relationships.
  • Ensures that metadata and data standards and definitions will support both business and mission processes and system implementation approaches, and NSG/ASG requirements for sharing data.

Requirements

  • 18+ years' experience in relevant fields.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Engineering Management, Management Information Systems, or related STEM degree program, or equivalent additional experience.
  • Expert-level experience in Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, Data Architecture, DoDAF, or IC's PAG.
  • Previous experience in data strategy, models, flow models, and standards.
  • Experience in Data Management services including compliance, cataloging, provenance, identifier, registry, metrics, recall & revision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Engineering Management, Management Information Systems, or related STEM degree program.
  • Experience with Data access services, APIs, Linked Data (REST, SOAP, OGC, etc.).
  • Experience in Data Queuing, Messaging, Orchestration, Choreography services.
  • Experience with Data Security Services (IAA, DPM, DRM, PDP, PEP, PAP, etc.).
  • Previous NGA and/or NSG/ASG program/project work experience.
  • Previous IC or DoD program/project work experience.
