About the position

Medline Industries is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Modeler and Architect to join our team in Northfield, IL. This position is critical as we continue to experience significant growth, having achieved double-digit growth in 56 of the past 57 years. As a Data Architect and Modeler, you will be responsible for translating business requirements into appropriate data models that integrate with our overall logical data warehouse. You will define business data requirements and create both logical and physical data models, ensuring that our data architecture is robust, scalable, and optimized for performance. In this role, you will assist in the design and development of ETL standards, policies, procedures, and metadata to ensure the accuracy, quality, integrity, and optimization of our information. You will create and maintain the Enterprise Business Intelligence data architecture, which is essential for increasing the robustness and performance of our systems. Your responsibilities will also include establishing and executing overall system performance assessment processes and action plans to ensure optimal end-user performance. You will be tasked with creating conceptual, logical, and physical database models, as well as process and data lineage diagrams. Additionally, you will provide oversight and direction for the design and development of the data layer(s), develop logical data models and physical database designs across multiple computing environments, and maintain the quality of data in the warehouse. This includes ensuring data integrity, correcting data problems, and establishing design procedures to purge or archive old data. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with product owners and business users to understand and translate user stories and requirements into data models, analytics reports, and scenario models. You will also assist ETL developers throughout the development life cycle and lead technology review meetings to ensure appropriate governance processes are followed. Documentation is crucial, and you will ensure that all documentation meets established standards and is properly maintained to facilitate ongoing support and maintenance. As a technical leader, you will guide team members, develop standards and process flows, and promote the mapping of data sources while documenting interfaces and data movement across the enterprise. You will also define governance and best practices around metadata to ensure an integrated definition of data for enterprise information, ensuring accuracy, validity, reusability, and consistent definitions for common reference data.

Responsibilities

  • Translate business requirements into appropriate data models that integrate with the overall logical data warehouse.
  • Define business data requirements and create logical and physical data models.
  • Assist in the design and development of ETL standards, policies, procedures, and metadata.
  • Create and maintain the Enterprise Business Intelligence data architecture.
  • Establish and execute overall system performance assessment processes and action plans.
  • Create conceptual, logical, and physical database models and process/data lineage diagrams.
  • Provide oversight and direction for the design and development of the data layer(s).

  • Lead technology review meetings and ensure appropriate governance processes are followed.
  • Ensure documentation is created, meets standards, and is properly maintained.
  • Provide technical leadership and guide team members.
  • Develop standards, process flows, and tools for mapping data sources and documenting data movement.
  • Ensure design meets requirements.
  • Source data from legacy systems and provide extracts back to operational systems.
  • Provide architectural solutions covering data structures, sourcing, integration, security, and retention.
  • Define governance and best practices around metadata.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in consulting or a similar analyst position implementing data warehouses and data marts.
  • Proven experience with ETL tools such as SSIS, Informatica, or DataStage.
  • Experience working with data warehouses.
  • Professional or educational experience in software development.
  • Excellent communication and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL for performing data analysis.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio).
