About the position

The Senior Data Architect at Availity plays a crucial role in shaping the future of healthcare technology by designing and supervising the development of enterprise data solutions that enable robust analytic products. This position requires a deep collaboration with both business and technology groups to ensure that the data solutions are not only effective but also aligned with the company's Data Strategy. The architect is responsible for delivering data that is easily understandable, accessible, well-governed, and secured, which is essential for supporting the company's mission of enhancing patient care. In this role, the Senior Data Architect will lead the collaboration with Product Owners and development teams to understand business and analytic requirements. They will translate these requirements into meaningful data pipeline design requirements and analytic products. The architect will also be responsible for designing data models, documenting them, and collaborating to create conceptual and logical models. Additionally, they will guide ETL engineers to optimize and maintain data models, ensuring end-to-end data-driven integration. The architect will partner with the Enterprise Architecture team to develop and implement future state data architecture standards, guidelines, and principles for the enterprise. They will assist in the implementation and maintenance of enterprise data stewardship, governance, and cataloging of company data and metadata. Furthermore, collaboration with data science and development teams will be essential to enable technologies and processes that maintain and improve data quality standards. This position is pivotal in ensuring that Availity continues to lead in the healthcare engagement platform space, impacting millions of providers and patients alike.

Responsibilities

  • Lead collaboration with Product Owners and development teams to understand business and analytic requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into meaningful data pipeline design requirements and analytic products.
  • Architect and deliver data solutions to support complex business intelligence and machine learning solutions.
  • Design data models and document them, collaborating to create conceptual and logical models.
  • Guide ETL engineers to optimize and maintain data models, enabling end-to-end data-driven integration.
  • Direct and contribute to data pipeline development efforts.
  • Partner with the Enterprise Architecture team to develop and implement future state data architecture standards, guidelines, and principles.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of enterprise data stewardship, governance, and cataloging of company data and metadata.
  • Collaborate with data science and development teams to enable technologies and processes to maintain and improve data quality standards.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of experience in information architecture and data solution design.
  • Strong domain expertise in healthcare business, administrative and clinical data.
  • 5 or more years of experience with data engineering technologies, including but not limited to Spark, Scala, SQL.
  • 5 or more years of experience developing data products with enterprise business intelligence tools (Tableau, QuickSight, PowerBI, Cognos).
  • Working knowledge of cloud-based data technologies and relational databases, including Oracle, MySQL and specifically AWS products Redshift, S3, EMR, Glue, QuickSight, and Aurora.
  • Analytical skills with hands-on experience in identifying, quantifying, and effectively raising risks associated with data quality, compliance, retention, and security.
  • Expertise in enterprise data architecture design supporting data products and machine learning applications.
  • Experience in data management principles such as data governance, data security, data quality.
  • Hands-on experience with data modeling for data lakes and data warehouses, to support large-scale structured, semi-structured and unstructured data.
  • Hands-on experience developing scalable data engineering pipelines.
  • Familiar with healthcare data standards.
  • Develop data strategies in collaboration with business and technology stakeholders of varying levels.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with capability to execute with business and technology stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Information Management; Master's degree preferred but not required.
