About the position

The Data Architect is responsible for designing relational and dimensional databases, applying relational theory and business process analysis to develop logical data models, and converting these models into physical database objects using data modeling CASE tools. This role involves developing and implementing enterprise-level strategies and principles for the integration of enterprise information resources, defining corporate standards for data architecture, format, quality, and database design. The Data Architect also plays a crucial role in the design, development, and implementation of ETL processes. As a Staff level Data Architect, the individual will independently manage moderately complex projects and their components, validating analysis, models, and data conversion and quality assurance processes. This position requires close collaboration with leadership and customers at the corporate level to develop integrated and standardized business intelligence solutions. The Data Architect is expected to record detailed logical and physical data models in the information repository, facilitating database design sessions and translating business requirements into logical and physical system designs for moderately complex projects. The role includes coordinating the physical database design and implementation process, designing optimal data presentation environments, and monitoring database performance. The Data Architect will also develop, test, and implement ETL routines, document business requirements, and ensure proper integration with existing data standards and business processes. Leadership for moderately complex projects is essential, including developing project work plans, tracking milestones, and coordinating project team efforts while keeping management and customers informed of progress. Additionally, the Data Architect will assist in developing and implementing system backup, recovery, and support plans, addressing customer needs, managing expectations, and ensuring system-wide integration. Participation in the technical review process of designs completed by other designers is also part of the role, along with developing complex ad-hoc queries of production data as requested by business users. The Data Architect will consult with business users to determine needs, specifications, feasibility, and project priorities.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for moderately complex projects, developing project work plans and tracking milestones.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Statistics, or closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Three years of experience in database design, development, and business intelligence technologies.
• Demonstrated high degree of flexibility and motivation in an aggressively changing environment.
• Demonstrated general knowledge of SQL (structured query language).
• Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills to promote and advance business intelligence in collaboration with customers.
• Demonstrated project management skills, customer service skills, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential material and adhere to data security and confidentiality protocols and procedures.
• Demonstrated knowledge of general data warehousing concepts and the differences between On-line Transaction Processing and Decision Support systems.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with MS SQLServer DB, Dimensional Modeling/cube creation, Cognos, MS Access, MS Excel, Unix Kornshell.
• Demonstrated knowledge of basic information used in a healthcare environment and how the data is produced, consumed, and transformed.
• Experience with PL/SQL.
