The Data Architect will support Barrow Wise's CPS project and perform the following duties: Enable the management and sharing of infectious disease data between Chicago Public Schools and the Health Department. Improvement of data quality (business processes, governance, systems/applications, etc.) is essential for the efficiency of public health response to disease outbreaks for Chicago Public School students. The role involves defining and implementing the long-term technology strategy and innovations roadmaps across analytics, data engineering, and data platforms. You will create standards, design patterns, and best practices for ETL development in an enterprise data warehouse environment, oversee the expansion of existing data architecture, and optimize data query performance. Additionally, you will assist with identifying future state architecture (data fabric, active metadata, Data Lake, Data Lakehouse) and perform current state data model assessments/target data models and gap analysis. Proposing new database architecture and supporting data migration from an existing Legacy system to a new structure is also part of the job. You will create source-to-target mapping documents to transform the source data into the target warehouse and test final transformations, maintain and create extensions to ODS, and counsel Analysts and Subject Matter Experts on specific topics to accurately capture existing business rules/principles. Establishing data modeling naming standards, abbreviations, guidelines, and best practices is crucial. You will develop and maintain conceptual, physical, and logical data models, drive best practice solutions for data in a collaborative environment, and provide insight and strategies for data architecture solutions. Coordination with a Solutions Architect to find the best data solution and workflows to support projects is expected, along with leading architectural design and strategy discussions. Utilizing various ETL tools, including MS SSIS and Ab Initio, performing ETL transformations between data stored in MS SQL Server Management Studio, Azure SQL Database, Oracle databases, and ServiceNow, and utilizing scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, Google Script, C#, and Python are also key responsibilities. You will perform AppWorx workload automation and data profiling and modeling of both dimensional and non-dimensional data in 3NF. Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, data science, engineering, or related field, required
  • 8 years of technology delivery experience with at least 7 years focus on database system architecture and design
  • Experience producing high-quality Solution architecture and design documents
  • Experience leading projects involving data warehousing, data modeling, and data analysis
  • Hands-on experience in performance tuning techniques
  • Experience with API and web service implementation (REST, API, SOAP API)
  • Experience with Cloud data warehouse technologies (Azure Data Warehouse, Amazon Redshift, Snowflake)
  • Experience with business intelligence tools and technologies such as ETL, Power BI, and Tableau
  • Ability to socialize and communicate the technical architecture and design to business and developers
  • Expertise in BI and data warehousing principles, including data modeling, data quality
  • Expert level knowledge of T-SQL, Stored Procedures, Data Modeling, Views, and Functions
  • Ability to resolve performance issues
  • Ability to collaborate and excel in complex, cross-functional teams involving data scientists, business analysts, and stakeholders
  • Familiarity with the latest trends in data engineering and data management (APIs, data virtualization, stream data integration, augmented data integration)
  • Familiarity with SQL Server database administration
  • Familiarity with modern ETL integration solutions (SSIS, Ab Initio, Datastage, Informatica, Azure Data Factory)
  • Familiarity with K-12 Education is preferred
